What digital asset management is
Digital asset management (DAM) is software that gives an organisation one central, secure home for its media files, with a structured way to tag, search, version and share them. A DAM is built for scale and longevity: it keeps a large, growing library navigable months or years after the files were created, and controls who can access or distribute each asset.
For film and TV, a DAM suits a studio or distributor holding stills, key art and other assets across many titles over time. It is strong at storage, taxonomy, search and distribution, and it reads embedded image metadata so captions and credits stay attached and searchable.
